Now You Can Learn How To Prevent Teen Suicide

A Guide for Parents, Professionals, Educators who Want To Learn How to Respond, And Want to Make A Difference!

….. Guaranteed

From the desk of Tammy Stoner LCSW

Dear Mental Health Professional, Teacher, Parent, or Concerned Citizen

Suicide has reached alarming proportions in the United States and throughout the world. Teen suicide is a problem in our schools, homes and communities. It is estimated that every minute of every single day, one young person under age 25 attempts to end his or her own life. That means by the time you finished reading this first sentence, at least one young person has attempted to end his or her own life. However, suicide is preventable.

If you learn to recognize the warning signs, learn how to respond, and learn to determine the level of risk you can prevent teen suicide.

Perhaps you work in a school system, perhaps you work in a mental health center, perhaps you work in neither, you are a parent with a suicidal teenager, and you are stumped as to how to respond. You don’t know if the child seeks attention, is a high suicidal risk or if you could possibly find the right approach to addressing the problem. Rest assured you can.

Today, according to the Center for Disease Control, less than 40% of all Ph.d programs preparing students for a doctorate in Psychology have had adequate training about this very important subject. In fact most graduate programs in the psychological fields do not provide any training about this subject. Parents not trained in psychology or in the counseling profession have even less training than the professional, yet it is exactly the nonprofessional who is first faced with the problem of addressing the suicidal teenager.

Years ago, I taught concerned community leaders and school systems how to recognize the warning signs with suicidal teenagers, and learn how to respond when faced with suicidal teenagers. I would practice my speech in front of my husband, as he listened attentively. Since he didn’t work as a counselor or in a situation where he faced suicidal teenagers, he didn’t think the problem was something he needed to pay much attention to. After all, how often does an accountant working  with the telephone company face a person, who is suicidal and then one who comes to him for help?

Approximately 3 weeks after listening to one of my prepared speeches he was faced with a suicidal co-worker, an employee he supervised at work. The employee, was in the process of getting divorced, and very distraught about his marriage breaking up.

He began discussing his personal problems with my husband, and Mike, my husband knew exactly how to respond and brought him to the needed help. He told me later that he wouldn’t have known what to do, or how to respond had he not listened to my speeches about how to respond or what to do.

I remember after I finished graduate school I had little training about this important subject, and faced with a suicidal teenager, I was stumped as to how to adequately assess and intervene with a suicidal teenager. It wasn’t until I faced teaching about this subject that I was given the knowledge, and know how to know exactly how to adequately assess and intervene with suicidal people, and my knowledge has helped saved lives.  While my education provided me the basics as to assessing suicidal teenagers, it had failed miserably to teach me how to “really assess and intervene with suicidal people. I didn’t have adequate skills to understand how to “evaluate risk levels of suicidal people.

Perhaps you are feeling the same. You have some minimal training about this subject, yet when faced with potentially suicidal people, you haven’t learned the nitty gritty details as to how to adequately assess and respond. You don’t want to miss clues or tips that can make a difference in saving a life.

There is nothing magical about leaning how to evaluate suicidal risk or learning how to intervene. It just takes knowledge about the subject, knowing what to pay attention to, and knowing what to say and what not to say.

It’s a complicated subject, and it can also be simple. With the right guidance, the right training you can make a difference in preventing this terrible tragedy.

So let me ask you a question…

How much better would you feel, how much time would you save,if you had a clear easy to follow, step by step plan right in front of you?

How much easier would your task look, knowing you had an experienced guide by your side?

A guide who made it both quick and simple for you to gather the right questions, decide what to ask, and what not to ask? How much easier would it be if you had a guide that helped you evaluate the personal situation right in front of you, and helped you learn how to asses that situation?

Because this is what I can do for you.

You see, when I worked in a community mental health center, I was assigned the task of teaching civic groups, school leaders, and concerned citizens the task of learning about teenage suicide. I was also assigned the task of teaching professionals what to do, and what not to do.

Suddenly I was faced with teaching people who were “experts” and people who had no knowledge about this subject, and it felt a bit overwhelming. As I was faced with teaching about this subject, I immediately recognized that in spite of my training as a clinical social worker, there was much that I just didn’t know.

I had to create a plan to teach in a way that worked for the “expert” in schools, in hospitals, in mental health centers, and I had to find a way to teach the non expert, the person not trained at all on this subject.

I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to involve the group, and the group consisted of people of varying degrees of knowledge about this subject. I wanted everybody to leave the training with the understanding that they learned new information, that they could do something, that they could make a difference

As you can imagine designing this first training program was a daunting task as clearly some people had more knowledge about suicide than others, and it took tremendous time.

As you can imagine, designing and developing that first program, was truly a voyage into the unknown. And there were no books to help. In fact, it’s fair to say that….

Designing that first Suicide Prevention Program on my own, without help took tremendous time and skill creating a program that worked for teachers and counselors working in school systems, clinicians working in mental health centers, and for people who just had teenagers and no clinical knowledge about the subject.

It won’t surprise you to hear that very first training program, took me a very long time to develop, And it was a tough job.

I still remember the questions you keep asking yourself in that kind of situation.

  • Will I be able to involvethe group in the process?
  • What if I miss something so important?
  • What if it isn’t interesting, and people are too depressed learning about this subject?
  • Will I be able to teach new information to experts and novices on the subject? Will I be able to make a difference in preventing suicide?
  • Can everybody walk away from this training learning new information?

And as you consider all of the worrying I did about those questions, and the mountain of information I had collected to design the program, you can easily imagine how designing that first program was stressful.

But you know what? Even with all of the worrying and anxiety, it was definitely worth it. One hundred percent!. It’s one of those things that when you do it properly, you never regret it because you make a difference, and you learn that you can do something to save a life. No words can describe that satisfaction.

You see creating that first Suicide Prevention Training Program for Schools Systems, Mental Health Centers, and concerned citizens was truly a rewarding training experience. It was  a great program that everybody present learned something new, and it left me deeply moved and inspired to create more training programs and to even develop a guide that could be used by professionals and novices about teen suicide prevention.

So afterwards, I forgot all about the anxiety and stress, and decided to go out and help other people who were faced with suicidal teenagers or just suicidal individuals, and who wanted to make a difference.

Most of my training has been focused on prevention efforts, but I have also provided training to schools and organizations following suicides, and some of my most rewarding personally satisfying experiences of my life time, have been knowing that I have made a difference in preventing teen suicide

And now after conducting hundreds of training programs, I  have worked out and refined the steps needed to prevent Teen Suicide in this Suicide: The Preventable Tragedy E-Book

You see, once you know how to adequately assess, and determine the degree of risk, among suicidal teenagers, you really can make a difference, and save lives.

It’s not about magical or special skills, that are only available to a few people. It’s not about having specialized knowlege  in psychology, and it’s not about spending hours and hours researching all of the statistics about the subject. Preventing teen suicide is knowing what to ask, who to involve, determining the risk level, and getting involved.

What I have realized through all of my experience is that it’s about following a simple proven plan, that has been used by lots of people, from all walks of life, of all backgrounds and of all circumstances, and that can be applied to people of all walks of life.

For the First Time, All that Know-How has been distilled into a Simple, Easy to Use, Step by Step Guide for preventing teen suicide, in this Teen Suicide:  The Preventable Tragedy E-Book.

Because to really get involved in somebody’s life, and prevent a suicide, you really need to explore just a few things….

Take a moment  to consider the person
(I will show you how to do this quickly)

  • Explore the attitudes and myths about teen suicide ( This is crucial-and at the same time, it’s simple.
  • Evaluate the degree of risk (I give you the outline to follow to get the information)
  • Identify the resources available ( I will show you how to evaluate this)
  • Evaluate any past attempts (I’ll show you some things to consider)
  • Know how to respond (Learn what to say and do, and what not to say or do)
  • Identify what every agency needs in place if a suicide does occur.

Of Course, You do have Other Options….

You could just “wing it”- assess it, evaluate it, and respond to suicidal teenagers the best way you know how, and hope it works. What a mistake that would be, when there is a clear guide available. If in doubt think for a moment what might happen if you make a mistake. It could cost a life

Or you could spend money on a bunch of books that will give you all of the information about suicide without a clear way to evaluate, assess or respond to risk. You might think that the added  information is a good shortcut, but it doesn’t tell you step by step what to do and how to respond.

Or you can turn to this guide for your practical step-by-step plan, and all of the information you need to understand the important information to gather to assess and respond to suicidal teenagers. You will learn how to differentiate between somebody who “just wants attention and isn’t serious about suicide, and the person who is very much in danger” And you will learn how to respond! This guide will help you save lives.

I was trying to find a way to approach teenagers to explore whether or not they were suicidal, and I wasn’t sure how to go about doing it. I understood the basics of suicide, but I wasn’t ever sure how to really look at somebody who I thought was suicidal and know. This book showed me how. I am much more confident about my skills after reading this guide. Every school system needs to learn this information. It is so important.
Rachelle Craig, School Counselor

“My 16 year old teenager was talking about suicide, and I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have the skills like the experts do. I felt inadequately prepared to respond. After I read this e-book, I knew what to do and what to say to respond. Every parent should read this book .
Mary M.

I am a Social Worker, and work in a counseling agency. I had some basic skills about suicide, but this book gave me so much more information to consider that went beyond my training. I highly recommend this to all counselors and social workers. Tammy, thank-you for writing this Suicide Prevention guide.
Carol Wilson, Social Worker.

Whether you are a trained professional, parent or concerned citizen you have a responsibility to accurately assess and intervene with people who may be feeling suicidal. You have a responsibility to be up to date on current knowledge, understand the facts and myths, and have a plan to intervene. If you are a school or an organization working with young people, and a suicide has happened, you owe it to staff, other potentially suicidal people, and the community to have a response plan that is up to date.

Many think they are trained already, don’t need to be trained as that’s not their job, or plan on referring suicidal people to others. Unfortunately this can lead to tragic consequences, rather than making an intelligent decision and taking action.

“ Ok Tammy, this all Makes Sense.
How do I get my Hands on a Copy?”

“And How can I do this with No Risk  Whatsoever?”

Listen as well as writing the best Teen Suicide: The Preventable  Tragedy E-book, for assessing and responding to suicidal risk, I wanted to make sure that people like you, would get a fair deal in using this guide without pressure or risk, and without risking any money at all.

Fortunately, I’ve discovered the perfect way to do this.

I found a large company in the United States called “Clickbank”, that collects a deposit from you and then holds it for 8 weeks( 56 days) So when you make a deposit to this “third party” you can ask for  your money back anytime within the 56 days, and they send it, no questions asked. Which means you can try the guide and follow the simple steps, all with no risk at all.

The only “catch” is that this works on the “honor system”, as you could in theory, take a copy from me without ever intending to pay for it. Of course some people might do this, but I believe that 99% of people are decent and honest human beings, so it’s a risk I’m prepared to take. All I ask is that, since you have full control over your deposit, you promise to give the simple steps a fair try….

…. Because once you have, I know you’ll be so glad you did. You really will help save lives!
