Grandparents Might Be
                 Responsible For Homosexuality

Homosexuality is in the news once again. This time a baptist preacher is stirring controversy as he says homosexuality can be determined as far back as the womb. I believe it originates before the womb. I think the origins begin in grandparents.

Let me explain. Twin studies research homosexuality through exploring identical twins. They are particularly interested in identical twins reared apart. Since often only one twin reports homosexuality and the other does not, they conclude that there must be environmental forces at work.

An exploration of fraternal twins demonstrates similar results, one reports homosexuality, the other doesn’t. While there is a higher tendency of homosexuality among twins then single births, the conclusion is drawn that environmental forces come into play. Otherwise in fraternal and in identical twins homosexuality would be an absolute and it is not.

Few researchers have explored homosexuality across generational lines. I believe that twinning and homosexuality are related and the genetic determinants can be viewed in grandparents who are twins, particularly female grandparents who are twins since I believe it may originate from the x chromosome.

While I am a social worker not an expert on genetics, I bring forth a case study of my own family history which includes multiple sets of twins, over many generations. I further point out that I do not claim to be homosexual nor do any of my siblings, which do include triplets, and single births. On the other hand we do not have grandparents who are twins. Our grandparents are all single births.

However, having said that, I can say that there is a high degree of twinning in my grandfather's generation, as my great grandmother bore 13 living children including three sets of fraternal twins, all female. Of those 6 twins, five lived to adulthood, one dying at birth.

This is what happened to the five living twins. One proclaimed homosexuality. Actually it was the early 1920s when she reached adulthood and she was “in the closet “ so to speak, except the entire family knew it as she lived with another woman her entire adult life and admitted it to her family. Her twin died at birth.

The twins were born consecutively, one set after another. The first twin was the shortest in physical stature leading me to believe there may be a relationship between multiple siblings born close together and physical height. However, that exploration is beyond the scope of this article.

The next set of twins, both female, had one twin who never married nor had children. She did not proclaim homosexuality and she did not reproduce, raising the issue of whether or not there is a relationship between reproduction and twinning. Again, that issue is beyond the scope of this article.

Her pair married and had children and had grandchildren. At least one grandchild was homosexual.

The next set of twins, both female, married and had children. They also had grand children. Both twins had male grandchildren who proclaimed homosexuality.

All of the grandchildren who proclaimed homosexuality had a grandmother who was a fraternal female twin.

Having fraternal twins is a genetically inherited trait. Identical twins are not. More research is needed to explore twinning and reproduction over multiple generations to learn more about genetic factors related to homosexuality.

I discovered these truths in my own family through looking at a model of teddy bears I developed to explore generational patterns.

I invite you to learn more about this model and its effectiveness with people of every age, race and socioeconomic group. I have organized the teachings into a total toolkit to provide you with rapid assessments and interventions. I invite you to visit the other pages onn this website and purchase this toolkit for your group or practice.
